These are the numbers for Exam 1, given on Oct. 8, 2006. The raw scores are the grades as originally determined by grading. The scaled scores were computed by raising each score 20% of its distance below 100. This adds between 0 and 20 points to the raw score: a 100 stays 100, a 0 becomes 20, and (for example) a 50 becomes a 60. The formula is: scaled grade = 20 + (raw grade × 0.8). Scaled grades are rounded off to the nearest integer: 89.6 becomes 90, and 89.4 becomes 89.
